NORCO — More than 25 volunteers from Dow St. Charles Operations partnered with United Way of St. Charles recently to restore an overgrown courtyard at the St. Charles Community Health Center in Norco.

“It is wonderful to see Dow seeking out the connections United Way of St. Charles has through local volunteer opportunities,” said Kelsey Matthews, Volunteer

Coordinator at United Way of St. Charles. “Before the Dow volunteers took on this service project, the courtyard was overgrown and served as nothing more than a bleak walkway for the patients of the Community Health Center.”

The Dow Energy and Environmental Operations volunteers pulled up all of the existing ground cover and bushes and replaced them with fresh flowers, plants and mulch.

Team members installed a new pathway, allowing patients to safely access the entire courtyard. The group also built four wooden benches and installed a tranquility fountain.

Energy and Environmental Operations at Dow St. Charles, expressed his appreciation of the team’s efforts.

“I am very proud of what this team was able to do in just eight hours, transforming this courtyard from overgrown to fully functional and beautiful,” he said. “It is a true testament to what Dow volunteers can bring to the community of St. Charles Parish.”

Eiler said volunteering with United Way as a team is a fun staff development experience that enriches the community.
