LAPLACE — A call for help in LaPlace Friday night led to home invasion, domestic abuse battery, battery of a deputy, flight from a deputy and resisting a deputy with force or violence charges for a Kenner man.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence in the 2900 block of Yorktowne Drive in LaPlace’s Cambridge Subdivision at 10:05 p.m. Friday following a break-in report.

Sgt. Dane Clement said the call came from the same residence where the altercation was taking place.

“When a deputy arrived and entered the residence, he saw a man hitting and kicking a woman,” a release from Sheriff Mike Tregre said. “When the man saw the deputy, he ran toward the deputy, hit him in the face and fled out the front door.”

Tregre said the responding deputies saw the perpetrator flee the residence, and, after a brief struggle, deputies arrested him.

The suspect was identified as Patrick Pittman, 31, of Kenner.

“The female victim told deputies that Pittman, her ex-boyfriend, entered in the house through a rear window,” Tregre said. “She refused medical attention.”

Pittman was booked with home invasion, domestic abuse battery, battery of a deputy, flight from a deputy and resisting a deputy with force or violence. Clement said no officers involved in the arrest needed medical attention.

As of press time Tuesday, Pittman remained in custody in lieu of a $20,000 bond set by Judge Sterling Snowdy.

The bond contains a “no 10 percent” attachment, which Clement said means 10 percent of the total couldn’t be posted for release, unlike other bonds. He said the judge who sets the bond uses the option at his or her discretion.

This was Pittman’s first arrest in St. John Parish, Clement said.
