What do Mark Ingram and Cam Jordan have in common besides being Saints football players?

They both recently became fathers. Another thing is they both made the front page of the sports section of a daily newspaper.

The Friday edition of the paper read: “Joyful Time for Jordan. Saints defensive end gets new contract and a new baby boy.”

His contract is a $60 million six-year extension to continue playing with the Saints. His girlfriend, Nikki, is the mother of his son whom they named Caleb.

Mark Ingram made the front page of Sunday’s sports section holding his daughter, Myla, who is six months. Myla’s mother is Ingram’s girlfriend.

Besides being good friends, another thing they have in common is that they aren’t married.

Be assured I’m not condemning the two single mothers that have rich boyfriends, but I’m condemning the news media, especially on Father’s Day, for promoting Mark Ingram and his lifestyle.

The article went on to share that Ingram said, “It’s just crazy to know it’s your responsibility to take care of her.” I hope he honors his responsibility.

The title above the picture of Ingram and Myla read: “All Together.” Sunday was to be the first Father’s Day he spent with his daughter and his own father whom he’s trying to model himself after as a parent. Wow!

His father, Mark Ingram, Sr., was in and out of jail for most of his son’s teenage years and into adulthood.

According to the article, regardless of his legal trouble, he was always supportive of his son, so much so he skipped bail in an effort to see his son play in the 2009 Sugar Bowl, which caused him to earn a longer jail sentence.

For Mark Ingram to model himself after his dad should scare his girlfriend. I struggled before writing this article, because I realize these two men are heroes to many people. I think it’s a disgrace for the media to promote their lifestyle as acceptable. And just think, they are called Saints.
