Keller: Mother Teresa found purpose living for others

“A life not lived for others is not a life at all.” That was one of Mother Teresa’s famous slogans.

In my lifetime, she has been one of the most famous religious leaders.

This Catholic nun has been recognized throughout the world for her ministry to the neglected and forgotten people of Calcutta, India.

God’s Word says that to be great among many, you have to be a servant to all.

She was truly a humble servant as an ambassador for Christ.

She was awarded the Nobel Peace Award. At the ceremony celebrating her achievements, the person making the presentation said to her, “It must have been difficult working under those adverse conditions.”

He was speaking of the unsanitary conditions, lack of food and not much help.

She responded that it wasn’t that difficult.

The people she served were at peace knowing that Jesus loved them and so did she.

She continued, “It would be hard to minister in New York because of the spiritual poverty that existed.”

When asked to attend a function at the White House under President Bill Clinton’s administration, Mother Teresa embarrassed the many spiritual leaders with this question.

“Mr. President, when will you stop the murder of the unborn?”  The room became quiet.

This humble, bold servant of God didn’t fear man, but feared her God.

If living for others is the secret to a full life, Mother Teresa was a giant among God’s chosen ones.
