WSJ receives $14K for scientific equipment

EDGARD — West St. John High School Principal Erica Merrick and chemistry and physics teacher Brian Joseph Carter recently to received a grant from Dow Chemical Company representatives.

The grant will help West St. John High School’s science department buy scientific equipment that will allow the students to participate in engaging projects that will prepare them for global competition.

West St. John High received $14,056 from theDow Chemical Company Foundation, which awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process.

Carter wrote a grant, “STEM: Preparing Our Students for Global Competition,” which was awarded by the Dow Chemical Promise Grant, an employee-led initiative that aims to positively impact African-American communities that face education and economic challenges.
