This is an exciting time for our library system as many things are happening, and we would like you to be a part of it.

The library now has an official logo. Designed by Carly Maurin, the logo features of our great State of Louisiana, our unique location along the river and, of course, something to represent libraries.

Don’t look at our logo as just a boat on the river — it’s a “fanned-open” book floating down the river. The smokestack is a book “spine-out.” We hope that it becomes our symbol of recognition and remember, we are eager to help you “from generation to generation” with your informational needs.

Our Summer Reading Program will run June 1 – July 31. This is a time when all ages can join in the reading fun.

“Every Hero Has A Story” is the theme for participants from Infants (Read 2-Me) to 12 years. For Ages 13–18, the theme is “Unmask!” We are excited to have an adult category this year. For Ages 19 and up, the theme is “Escape the Ordinary.”

There are prize incentives for every category, and to entice adults to participate, a lucky participant may win an android tablet. Don’t forget that we have crafts, movies and great performers.

We will have Playmakers of Baton Rouge as the kickoff act. Johnette Downing (singer/storyteller), David LeBoeuf (magician), the Audubon Zoomobile, Calliope Puppets and Angela Davis, the yarnspinner/storyteller will all be in the line-up.

If you are able to view our webpage remotely (stjohn.lib.la.us), take a look at our new format. Our goal is to make our webpage more attractive and user friendly.

Don’t forget to try out some of our wonderful databases (OverDrive for downloadable books, Gale Legal Forms, Chilton Auto Repair, Freegal Downloadable Music, Freegal for Streaming Movies, ScienceFlix, Career Cruising, Atomic Training for learning computer applications, and Universal Class for online continuing education courses – just to name a few!)

Take advantage of these free services. We are also in the process of putting smart boards in all of our meeting rooms and adding iMac computers for public use.

Also, very soon, our Reserve Branch Library will be named in honor of our long-time board member, Mr. Leroy D. Williams, who passed away this year. Mr. Williams was one of two members who have been on the board since the public library system began in St. John the Baptist Parish in 1966.

He assumed many duties during his term serving as treasurer, vice-president and president.

His service and dedication will never be forgotten.
