Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Lt. Col. Bobby Webre confirmed the identity of the victim as Bontrion Toliver, 24, of LaPlace.

According to authorities, a train struck Toliver at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Louisiana 73 at the railroad crossing, just south of Airline Highway in Prairieville.

“The incident is under investigation with the train company,” Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Allison Hudson said Friday morning, adding there were no witnesses to the collision.

Hudson said it is unclear why Toliver was in Prairieville, and that toxicology testing results should be complete in about a week.

There was no vehicle present at the scene, a statement from the Sheriff’s Office read.

Authorities said Toliver was from Dallas and recently moved to the LaPlace area with his family.
