RESERVE — During Geriatric Clinicals at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home, the South Central Louisiana Technical College Practical Nursing students participated in group activities with the residents.

“These Clinicals require the students to perform, demonstrate and practice basic Geriatric Nursing care and skills, while always maintaining the respect and dignity of the residents,” Nursing Faculty Christina Costanza said.

One activity has residents holding and waving a parachute while trying to keep balloons from hitting the floor.

This easy to do activity is designed to improve endurance, strength and flexibility, while encouraging participation and teamwork.

The students gained an appreciation of the “Greatest Generation” and their contributions to the country.

“You must always remember Veterans sacrifices and the many blessings we have today because of what they’ve done,” Nursing Department Head Debbie Zeringue said.

Resident Dudley Melancon expressed his appreciation for the students and the physical activity and care they provided.
