EDGARD — An Edgard man is facing charges he robbed a victim of cash last month before threatening to kill him.

A release from St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said deputies responded to the Edgard area of East 6th Street and Bailey Lane at 5:43 a.m. April 14 after a male teenager was hit in the head with a gun. EMS treated the 19-year-old male victim, but he refused additional medical attention.

Over the course of the investigation, Tregre said a Sheriff’s Office detective identified the suspect as Corey Bartholomew — the investigation indicating Bartholomew “struck the victim with a handgun, took his money and told him to leave before he killed him.”

Sgt. Dane Clement said during the development of the case, an arrest warrant was issued May 14 for Bartholomew, who was picked up by authorities this week.

Tregre said deputies arrested the suspect at 7:06 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of a lounge on East 6th Street in Edgard.

Bartholomew is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and an outstanding attachment. Clement said Bartholomew was released at 3 a.m. Thursday on a $60,150 bond.
