GARYVILLE – Ecolab’s Nalco Champion manufacturing facility in Garyville has been recognized with the Louisiana Environmental Leader-ship Program Medium Business Recognition Award for Pollution Prevention.

The facility was recognized for its initiatives to reduce water consumption and wastewater discharge.

The Garyville manufacturing facility recently completed a steam condensate return project to maximize the amount of steam condensate returned to the plant’s boiler operations. The project reduced water consumption at the facility by more than 5 million gallons, wastewater discharge by more than 6 million gallons and also reduced natural gas consumption.

“Our Garyville team worked extremely hard to implement this project to further reduce the environmental footprint of our operations,” said Sammy Edwards, superintendent of Safety, Health and Environment at the Garyville plant.

“We’re honored that this project was recognized by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.”

Edwards accepted the award on behalf of the plant during the recent Department of Environmental Quality Leadership Awards Ceremony in Baton Rouge.

The Nalco Champion Garyville plant, which opened in 1970, has nearly 300 employees and manufactures industrial water treatment products used in boilers and cooling towers, wastewater treatment products and process chemistries for the food and beverage, paper, petroleum, power generation, mining, steel and aluminum industries.
