Councilman Wright seeking parish presidency

Wright is a health care industry manager. He has served on the St. John Council since being elected in November of 2011 and was selected by his peers to serve as Chairman in January.
Wright believes in serving the public and says the best ideas are fostered from the ground up. His willingness to tackle tough issues has been widely publicized. For example, Wright said he strongly opposed the current administration’s handling of the amoeba scandal. With Council support, Wright called for the immediate resignation of the current Utilities Director after the current administration exemplified a colossal failure in leadership.
If elected, Wright’s administration will focus on the parish’s drinking water system, drainage and hurricane protection levee. His plan is to streamline the bureaucratic planning and zoning office and permitting process, and provide residents with better access to government.
Wright said he is dedicated to strengthening recreational programs in order to build confidence, camaraderie and community among the younger generation.
“I will strengthen relationships with our school system and the Sheriff’s Office as we work together as a team to help grow all of our youth into productive citizens,” Wright said. “It all starts with kids having more opportunities to participate in safe and fun recreational activities.
“Together we can make St. John Parish a better place to call home. We cannot allow yesterday’s mistakes to continue to be tomorrow’s problems. It’s time to move forward, and together we can change the direction. It’s time to create a government that serves the residents of St. John, not the other way around. With a fresh, bold and energetic approach to parish leadership, we can accomplish just that.”
Wright is a lifelong resident of LaPlace and a graduate of St. Charles Catholic High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Small Business Entrepreneurship from Southeastern Louisiana University.
The election is Oct. 24, and qualifying begins Sept. 8.
