LAPLACE — Authorities are hoping someone in the community will come forward with useful information following a broad daylight shooting Friday in LaPlace.

Sgt. Dane Clement of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday morning the investigation is being hampered because the victim in this case is not cooperating with authorities.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was shot Friday in the ankle, and authorities were not aware of his medical status Tuesday.

Clement said the shooting took place on Persimmon Street, and no one else was around when authorities arrived.

St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre said deputies responded to the location at 12:14 p.m. Friday.

“When deputies arrived, they located the 25-year-old male victim who sustained a gunshot wound in his left ankle,” Tregre said in a release. “Emergency medical technicians treated the victim and transported him for additional medical treatment. No one else was injured.”

Tregre said investigators attempted to gather information about the shooting Friday from the victim, but “he was uncooperative with investigators.”

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or stjohnsheriff.org/submitatip.php.
