LAPLACE — Repeated and prolonged heavy rainfall up to six inches will impact different locations throughout the River Parishes through Thursday, officials said.

According to St. John the Baptist Parish Government, a deep plume of moisture from the southern Gulf of Mexico will remain over the area while a few disturbances move through.

As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of Southeast Louisiana including St. John the Baptist Parish and Southern Mississippi through 6 p.m. Thursday.

With already saturated grounds, excessive rainfall may cause flooding in low-lying areas and roadways. Residents are asked to use caution when venturing outdoors or operating vehicles in heavy rainfall.

Residents are asked to assist with removing debris from catch basins and storm drains to assist with drainage during this ongoing rain event.

Public Works and Utilities crews will be on hand in the event issues arise with drainage and utility systems.

Residents should report any issues or concerns during the rain event to 9-1-1. They also can sign up to receive emergency notifications to a home phone, cell phone, email or SMS text messaging device by visiting the homepage of the Parish’s website at www.sjbparish.com and clicking on “Stay Connected.”
