DESTREHAN — Destrehan High School Senior Ashlyn Frahm was recently announced as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program.

Finalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

Of about 1.4 million students who qualified for the National Merit Scholarship, Frahm is one of 15,000 students who has achieved Finalist status.

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2015 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July.

The scholarship recipients will join more than 308,000 others who have earned the Merit Scholar title in the past.

In addition to the National Merit achievement, Frahm recently was announced as a state recipient of the Elks National Foundation scholarship, which recognizes students who display exemplary leadership skills and academic excellence.

For her efforts in the state competition, Frahm will receive at least $4,000 and moves on as a National Finalist for the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship.
