Editor’s note: In appreciation of veterans, L’OBSERVATEUR is running the following letter from 7-year-old Brogan to his great grandfather, Chuck Wisher, of LaPlace, an Army Air Corps veteran.

Dear Great Grandpa,

Thank you for serving in our country and saving our lives. You are a good hero for all of us, and you are a brave man for protecting us.

You were almost just like a big shield for us.

Thank you for our freedom. Thank you for fighting in the air.

You’re the sign of the American flag now.

You’re in the bald eagle’s heart.
