RESERVE — Application procedures and deadlines for St. John the Baptist Parish School District’s magnet schools have been announced.
John L. Ory Communication Arts Magnet School
The LaPlace school is now accepting applications for the 2015-16 school year. Applications must be completed by noon on March 27 to be considered, and can be filled out online at oryapplicant.net.
Those who do not have a computer at home and cannot access one at the St. John the Baptist Parish Public Library may use computers at the school weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Officials said the list of all students’ names entered into the lottery selection will be posted for review in the school auditorium April 4-10, allowing parents and guardians the opportunity to be sure their child has been entered into the lottery in the correct grade and that their ethnicity has been correctly entered.
JLO student selection will be made by a random selection software lottery process at 5 p.m. April 22 in the school auditorium. All kindergarten applications will be drawn and either accepted for admission or placed on a waiting list. All applications for grades 1-8 will be drawn and placed on a waiting list.
Officials said acceptance will be decided at the close of the 2014-15 school year and determined by the number of openings once promotion of the current student population is final.
Parents and guardians are invited, but not obligated, to attend.
Officials said siblings must submit the online application and the supporting documentation proving sibling preference prior to the close of the application process.
After applying online, a copy of the confirmation receipt must be attached to supporting documentation and submitted to the school office by noon on March 27.
The child’s name on the application must match the name on his birth certificate and Social Security card, and the names on the proof of residence must match the parents’ or guardians’ names listed on the application.
If not, then a notarized affidavit proving St. John the Baptist Parish residency is required. A copy of the affidavit can be downloaded from the website.
All other students will only have to provide supporting documentation if accepted.
Documentation includes a birth certificate, shot record, Social Security card and first and second nine weeks report card. For grades 1-8 only, two proofs of residence proving St. John the Baptist Parish residency (cable bill, utility bill, landline phone bill, current driver’s license with address or voter registration card) is required.
Parents and guardians of prospective students are invited to tour the school at 9:30 a.m. March 5.
