LUTCHER — Dr. Clay N. Boyd, a urologist, recently joined the St. James Parish Hospital family.

As a hospital-employed physician, patients will enjoy expanded options for appointments and procedures with Boyd  at the new St. James Urology Clinic — a department of St. James Parish Hospital.

Boyd has a professional background in clinical urology with practical experience in practice management and the training of physicians. He received his undergraduate bachelor of science degree as a 1978 summa cum laude graduate from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. Under United States Air Force Sponsorship, he was awarded his medical degree in 1982 from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans.

He completed his urologic residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, fulfilled his Active Duty Service Commitment in the USAF Medical Corps as urology section chief 92nd Strategic Hospital Fairchild Air Force Base and departed under honorable discharge with commendation in 1991 at the rank of major to enter private urologic practice in the greater New Orleans area.

In 2007, he joined LSU Health Sciences Center as part of the faculty rebuilding program following Hurricane Katrina and completed his healthcare MBA through George Washington University in 2009.

Boyd has an applied interest in interdisciplinary changes for health care and will provide general urology services, including cancer screen and surveillance exams, endoscopies, treatment of urinary infections, urolithiasis management, vasectomies and evaluation of sexual dysfunction.

He also looks forward to expanding his services to include lithotripsy and laser endoscopy in the future.

Starting next week, Boyd will see patients on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Medical Plaza, located on the same campus as St. James Parish Hospital.
