DESTREHAN — The Cheffen Wilson Milton Foundation, United States Marine Corps and volunteers made it possible for Santa’s sleigh to be filled with goodies from Toys for Tots USMC and land in St. Charles Parish for needy children Dec. 14.
St. Charles United Methodist Church in Destrehan donated its facility to host the program, where each child received a stocking stuffer and a toy of their choice.
Children also enjoyed meeting Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
Evelyn Sullen of 1st Lady Lingerie donated a Mrs. Claus costume just in time to greet the good little boys and girls of St. Charles Parish. Marine Corps personnel were also on site to greet and take photos with attendees.
Before toy distribution started, USMC Sergeant Michael Spina shared the history of Toys for Tots. Toys given out included dolls, skateboards, MP3 players, music headphones, radios, mind-challenging board games, battery-operated helicopters, action figures, hair and beauty accessories, footballs and basketballs.
A bike was raffled off at the event, and a little girl named Diamond was thrilled to learn she was the winner.
