LAPLACE — A young man told deputies his car was shot at Sunday night but little else as investigators work the crime scene, authorities said.
“He afforded only little information to investigators and refused to answer questions,” St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said.
Deputies responded to the 2000 block of Yorktowne Drive in LaPlace after gunshots were heard in the area at 7:03 p.m. Sunday.
Residents told investigators they heard several gunshots, but no one was injured during the shooting, Tregre said.
Deputies met with a 20-year-old male victim, whose car was hit with gunfire.
“The victim said that he drove from the area for his safety and the safety of his passenger,” Tregre said. “The reporting deputy saw the car had several bullet holes in the rear window, and the rear passenger side window was shattered. (The victim) told investigators that his car was parked on Yorktowne Drive, and he was talking to a friend. He heard several gunshots and got down. He did not see the direction the assailant fled.”
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
Those with information do not have to testify in court and may qualify for a cash reward. Residents can also submit tips at stjohnsheriff.org/submitatip.php.
