HAHNVILLE — Three people were sent to the hospital — with one later dying — following a violent wreck in St. Charles Parish Saturday that involved two motorcycles and a truck.
Louisiana State Police Troop B spokeswoman Melissa Matey said the wreck took place shortly before 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities said two 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycles — driven by Jonathan Dascher, 30, of Lacombe and William Harrison, 29, of Mt. Dora, Fla., — were traveling on Louisiana 3127 near the St. Charles Parish jail in Hahnville when the crash occurred.
Dascher’s motorcycle crossed the highway centerline and entered the southbound lane at the same time a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado being driven by Norman Samuel, 84, of Edgard was traveling south on Louisiana 3127 approaching the motorcycles, Matey said.
“Samuel attempted to steer his vehicle to the right in order to avoid the motorcycle, but was unable to avoid the crash,” Matey said.
“The motorcycle struck the front left fender of the Colorado, causing Dascher to be ejected from his motorcycle.”
Dascher, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to St. Charles Hospital where he died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities said after the impact, the Colorado continued off the right side of Louisiana 3127 Southbound, where the driver overcorrected and caused the vehicle to roll over.
Harrison laid his motorcycle down in an attempt to avoid the crash and slid off the right side of Louisiana 3127 Northbound.
Samuel, who was wearing a seat belt, and Harrison, who was wearing a helmet, were taken to St. Charles Hospital with minor injuries.
“Alcohol use is unknown at this time, and routine toxicology tests are pending for Dascher,” Matey said.
“Blood was taken from Samuel and Harrison, and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.”
Matey said the crash remains under investigation, and the timeline for the return of the blood tests for Samuel and Harrison will depend on the case load of the crime lab.
Toxicology results for Dascher will completed by the coroner, Matey said, adding the final crash report should be complete in six to eight weeks.
