GRAMERCY — More than 200 local residents enjoyed photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, face painting and other holiday fun Sunday when Crazy ‘Bout History, a St. James Parish nonprofit organization, hosted A Very Cajun Christmas at the Gramercy Welcome Center.
Connie Donadieu, president of Crazy ‘Bout History, said the third annual holiday event was a huge success.
“Each one is getting bigger,” Donadieu said of the group’s Christmas offering, adding all of the feedback she’s received so far from attendees has been very complimentary of the day.
Formed in March 2007, the board of Crazy ‘Bout History, along with other volunteers, have dedicated themselves to educating the public about life along the Mississippi River, both past and present.
Unique to this year’s Cajun Christmas program was the chance for children to meet “Frozen” characters Anna and Elsa.
Admission was free, and Donadieu said the organization would use proceeds from photo sales to develop new programs.
“I have to thank all of the volunteers who helped us and the board who came out to help,” she said, adding support from several local sponsors helped ensure the event’s success.
“I’m so proud of the board that I have,” Donadieu said. “They are fantastic.”
Other than regularly-planned tours and holiday events, Donadieu said Crazy ‘Bout History volunteers are always excited to help out teachers or libraries by complimenting their lessons and delivering educational lectures, historical lectures and presentations.
Donadieu said any school, teacher or library interested in partnering with Crazy ‘Bout History can contact the organization for more details.
