Hurricane Isaac housing help available in St. John

LAPLACE — Beginning Monday, St. John the Baptist Parish, in coordination with Providence Technical Services, will begin accepting applications for Community Development Block Grant Housing Programs designed to assist the needs of low to moderate income (LMI) and non-LMI residents who sustained property damage during Hurricane Isaac.

The specific grant-funded housing programs are: Homeowner Rehabilitation, Homebuyer Assistance, Housing Elevation and Small Rental Rehabilitation.

St. John residents interested in applying for one of the four housing programs may pick up an application at the each of the Intake Service Centers, the Percy Hebert Building and the West Bank Courthouse.

Applications are also available online at sjbparish.com. Residents may drop off completed applications at the Intake Service Center or apply online at sjbparish.com.

Applications will be accepted for a minimum of two weeks based on last names at the St. John Community Center in LaPlace and the West Bank Community Center in Edgard.

The CDBG Housing Programs are being funded through the $32 million Department of Housing and Urban Development CDBG Disaster Recovery Program and the state of Louisiana Office of Community Development/Disaster Recovery Unit to provide funding to housing programs, economic development and infrastructure.
