NEWMAN 31, ST. JAMES 30 — It was a heartbreaking defeat for St. James (2-4, 1-2) as Newman (6-0, 3-0) scored with 41 seconds left on Miles Lapeyre’s 12-yard pass to Elbert Thomas to escape St. James with a one-point victory.

St. James scored with 1:58 left in the fourth quarter to take a 30-25 lead, Lowell Narcisse connecting with Curtlan Johnson for a go-ahead 10-yard touchdown and then running in a two-point conversion. But Newman’s Jay Tyler returned the ensuing kickoff to the SJH 43, and a personal foul penalty set the Greenies up at the Wildcats’ 28 yard line with 1:30 left to play.

Narcisse completed 22 of 43 passes for 305 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 153 yards on 23 carries. Rashaun Weber was his favorite receiver, hauling in 11 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns.

Lapeyre was 26 of 35 for 442 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Kendall Bussey caught 10 of those completions for 121 yards and a touchdown.

DESTREHAN 21, THIBODAUX 14 — A battle of District 7-5A undefeated teams went the way of Destrehan, as Will Matthews rushed for a 19-yard touchdown on a third down draw play with 34 seconds left to provide the winning points.

Matthews finished with 120 yards on a night Thibodaux held DHS to 204 total yards.

Destrehan needed one final defensive stop to cement the win as Peyton Bonvillain drove the Tigers down to the DHS 3 for one final play with three seconds remaining. Austin Dickerson intercepted a pass on the game’s final play to seal the deal.

HAHNVILLE 59, TERREBONNE 35 — It was a shootout at Hahnville Friday night as the Tigers gained 619 yards of total offense in HHS’ first District 7-5A win of the season.

Drew Dunn rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown on eight carries to lead Hahnville, while Bradley Aucoin added 80 yards on 15 attempts. Devonte Craven scored two touchdowns and Peyton Robert scored on a 44-yard interception return.

Quarterback Austin Perrin had his best day since taking over for injured starter Mike Neal, completing 12 of 19 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns, to Norquell Flowers, Devante Clark and Rickey Preston respectively.

ST. MICHAEL 18, LUTCHER 8 — St. Michael had never beaten district nemesis Lutcher prior to Friday night, but earned that first one, securing a pivotal district victory over the Bulldogs.

Matthew Butler put St. Michael (6-0, 1-0) ahead for good on a 77-yard touchdown run.

Defensive tackle Sully Laiche accounted for Lutcher’s only score on a strip and 90-yard fumble return.

Lutcher (3-3, 0-1) played the game without a number of starters, including quarterback Jontre Kirklin, who was unable to play due to injury. Paul Taylor and Trevor Comradelle split reps at quarterback in the game.
