LAPLACE — Lt. Nolan Anderson of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office threatened the lives of responding deputies Sept. 24 during a domestic disturbance involving his wife that eventually escalated when deputies shot and killed Anderson, Louisiana State Police said.

Trooper Melissa Matey, spokeswoman for Troop B, said the investigation remains ongoing with witness interviews and forensic testing continuing by LSP investigators and crime lab technicians.

The LSP Bureau of Investigations was requested by St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre at 2:20 p.m. Sept. 24 to investigate the deputy-involved shooting at 261 Pine Street near Captain Bourgeois in LaPlace.

The shooting took the life of Anderson, a 25-year Sheriff’s Office veteran.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed several 911 calls were made to the Sheriff’s Office dispatch center at 1:38 p.m. regarding a violent domestic dispute between Anderson and his wife,” Matey said. “While deputies were responding to the scene, Anderson utilized his department radio to make life-threatening statements against responding deputies.”

Matey said several shots were fired inside the home prior to and during the deputies’ arrival.

“During the course of the investigation, LSP Investigators obtained St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office radio transmissions and 911 calls confirming the violent incident and threats to deputies,” Matey said.

Anderson’s wife was not seriously injured during the standoff.

“As deputies arrived at the residence, Anderson was observed holding his wife at gun point, as confirmed by witness statements and video footage obtained from the scene,” Matey said. “Troopers’ investigation revealed that the violent incident quickly escalated as Anderson fired his department-issued firearm in various directions, then placed his wife in imminent danger, which resulted in deputies using lethal force.”
