COLUMBIA, S.C. — Army Pvt. Kevinesha Shy graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Shy studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills and more.

Shy is the daughter of Kevin and Sheletha Cooks of LaPlace. She is a 2013 graduate of Renew Accelerated High School in New Orleans.
