LAPLACE — St. Charles Catholic hosted Lutcher Monday evening, but couldn’t seize victory from the Bulldogs, falling in three straight games, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-14.

“It was a very hard fought game,” said St. Charles coach Meghan Ericksen.

“The girls never gave up. I thought the effort was tremendous, and the scores didn’t reflect the heart they showed in their play.”

Kaitlyn Lowry scored three blocks for the Comets.

Leia Hill had two kills and two blocks while Grace Mohon had six assists.

“Kaitlyn really stepped up as captain to keep the team motivated to continue playing, even though they were down,” said Ericksen. “Everyone showed a lot of teamwork.”

Ericksen also praised the play of Hill, who shifted positions before the game.

“She stepped up to help where we needed it,” Ericksen said.

The match against Lutcher was St. Charles’ only contest this week. The Comets return to action Monday when they host perennial Division V contender Ascension Catholic.
