BATON ROUGE — Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the state’s non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to litter prevention and waste reduction, is accepting applications for its 2014-2015 KLB Healthy Communities Grants Program. Applicants may apply for up to $10,000 to help fund local litter prevention, enforcement and education projects.

Information, criteria and application may be downloaded at keeplouisianabeautiful.org.

The deadline to apply is Aug. 27. Grant applications are to be submitted via email to skelley@keeplouisianabeautiful.org.

KLB awarded $230,000 in grants to 34 different organizations last year.

With funding from KLB, Keep Terrebonne Parish Beautiful created an awareness campaign in local marinas to remind boaters to dispose of litter responsibly; the Foundation for Math and Science purchased reusable lunch trays to reduce cafeteria waste produced by using Styrofoam trays; and East Baton Rouge Parish’s parks and recreation department purchased recycling bins for use at a large sporting park.

The KLB Grants Program is designed to help 501(c) (3) organizations, governmental agencies, KLB affiliates, schools, school districts and youth groups implement projects with a specific focus on litter abatement through community education, recycling and enforcement.

“The Healthy Communities Grants Program is one way KLB is extending its reach and broadening its impact in local communities throughout the state,” said Susan Russell, KLB executive director.

“We want to empower these groups to engage and mobilize their communities for a cleaner and greener tomorrow.”
