LAPLACE — LARAYO earned its second win of the River Parishes Swim League’s opening week Thursday, toppling host Ellington 417-130.
Sweeping their three individual events were Jonathan Carver, Owen Weber, Emily Schexnayder, Kelly Campbell, Ben East and Paige Williams for LARAYO (2-0).
Adrienne Arnett, Aliyah Manson, Alex Schiff and Madison Weber each banked two first place finishes, while Brady Matherne, Hudson Heltz, Lily Weber, Rosie Bourgeois, Blakely Heltz, Gage Crowdus, Kaile Levatino, Eden Simoneaux, Alex East, Bailey Bourgeois and Kelsie Williams each earned one top finish.
LARAYO peaked in the breaststroke, scoring a meet-high 81 points. That just edged the Barracudas mark of 79 in the butterfly.
“I’m very pleased with our start to this season,” said LARAYO coach Michelle Jensen. “We’ve got a lot of kids here working very hard. Many of our swimmers are involved in a lot of different things during the summer and are still dedicated enough to get to our meets.
“I know it’s a challenge for them. For a lot of them, it just goes to show their love for swimming, for them to show up for these meets and practices.”
