EDGARD — West St. John High School’s National Art Honor Society members used their talents to create works of art for a Mexican orphanage.
The society participated this school year in the Memory Project.
The nationwide program allows art students to create portraits for children living in orphanages who often have few personal keepsakes.
The portraits provide them with special memories capturing a piece of their childhood, while also helping the children see themselves as works of art.
West St. John students, under the direction of honor society sponsor and art teacher Deanna Edenfield, created four portraits for children in an orphanage in Mexico.
The honor society also paid participation fees that were donated to the art therapy program at the orphanage.
