HANHVILLE – St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne has been appointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement.

The LCLE is a state body that helps set priorities for police and judicial programs.

The commission, composed of law enforcement and judiciary representatives, administers federal grant funding to law enforcement and judicial programs throughout the state and meets in Baton Rouge quarterly.

Jindal said, “Sheriff Champagne is a great leader and a key partner on law

enforcement issues in our state. His experience as a past president of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association and his current service as a vice president of the National Sheriffs’ Association help us continue our partnership to crack down on crime and keep Louisianians safe. I am confident he will be an asset to the commission and the people of Louisiana.”

Champagne, a former assistant district attorney in St. Charles Parish, was first elected sheriff in 1995.

“I am honored to be appointed to this commission, which directs funding to worthy criminal justice programs throughout Louisiana, including those that help pay for bullet-resistant vests for officers, the D.A.R.E. program, as well as assistance and reparations for crime victims.” Sheriff Champagne said. “The Commission also sets policy in many statewide law enforcement issues. I am really looking forward to serving in this capacity.”
