Sheriff looking for leads in latest murder

LAPLACE – On Saturday at 8:25 a.m., St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to East 16th Street in Reserve for the report of an unresponsive man lying on the ground near the train tracks.
A resident of East 16th Street saw the subject and notified St. John authorities. Responding deputies arrived to find an unidentified man that was the apparent victim of a homicide.
Investigators are seeking the assistance of the public in helping to identify the victim. The victim is described as a young black male that was wearing a black shirt and khaki pants.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
Citizens can call Crimestoppers and submit an anonymous tip to qualify for the cash reward. Callers with information do not have to testify in court and will be issued a tip number to be identified for the potential reward.
This murder is the 13th in St. John Parish this year. Although the Sheriff’s Office long suspected fowl play in the case of Mikivon Anderson, his case was recently reclassified as a homicide after the discovery of his body on Aug. 1.
