HAHNVILLE – The body of a New Orleans man who apparently committed suicide by jumping off the Hale Boggs Bridge in St. Charles Parish was recently found in the waters of the Mississippi River.
According to reports, passing motorists called the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office the morning of July 16, saying they observed a white Ford Explorer traveling southbound pull off the roadway abruptly at the top of the bridge and the driver immediately exit the vehicle.
The driver then ran around the front of the vehicle and dove over the railing of the bridge with no hesitation. The caller described the jumper as a white male wearing a white shirt and dark colored pants.
The body turned up on July 19 near ADM Grain Elveator in Ama, where it was identified as John “Jack” Culotta of New Orleans. The remains had been spotted in the river by a tugboat operator the day before.
