A great week at vacation Bible school

This week, I registered my great-grandson, Jaden, at the First Baptist Church vacation Bible school. It was my responsibility to pick him up and get him to the church for 8:30 a.m. and be there at noon to bring him home.
Every morning, I’d bring him in to see the activity and excitement of the nearly 200 children in attendance. At noon, I would get there a little early to see the closing ceremony. Jaden is 6 years old and has a struggle with discipline, and for that reason I worry about him a lot.
On our way to Bible school, we would sing and also do so on our way home. He was excited to go every day, and when it was over, he acted like it wasn’t long enough.
The school was free and open to the public for children from kindergarten to sixth grade. You would think that with almost 200 children attending, getting enough people to help would be a problem, but it was not. The school attracted 82 volunteers who helped to make this a successful week. They taught the children about God and displayed the love of the people of the First Baptist Church.
Pastor Paul Naylor of the First Baptist Church is a friend of mine, and I never question his love for Jesus or his devotion to God’s ministry.
The last day of the Bible school, I asked him a question and already knew the answer. “Are you using this Bible school to promote your church, hoping it will increase the attendance on Sundays?” He looked at me, smiled and didn’t answer, but I did. “Bro. Paul,” I said, “I thank you that your interest is more about getting people into the Kingdom of God than increasing your church membership.”
I know Jaden enjoyed himself. It is so refreshing to see such a positive program take place in our community. No charge – no strings attached, only a desire to see children learn more about Jesus.
The theme of the week was “Kingdom Rock,” where children stand strong for God. It wouldn’t be school without the A-B-Cs, which was the salvation message of the whole week.
“A” stands for “All.” The Bible tells us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
“B” stands for “Believe.” The Bible tells us to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.
“C” stands for “Confess.” The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth that ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
It was a great week for Jaden, and I was also blessed.
