The benefits of Earth Day

LAPLACE – The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow. As such it is important to instill good values in them when they are young.
With this in mind, in observance of Earth Day this year L’Observateur held a coloring contest open to the students of the River Parishes. Connor McCrossen, a third-grader at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in LaPlace placed first, winning for his entire class a pizza party courtesy of L’Observateur and Rotolo’s Pizzeria of LaPlace.
Although McCrossen was the student who came out on top in the contest, his classmates obviously know a thing or two about the importance of Earth Day, too.
Brittany Marshall shared her thoughts on the day: “Plant more trees. Leaves will clean up the air so the air won’t get dirty and make the animals sick.”
Another classmate, Shelly Willis, said, “We should not put trash in the water because we do not want the fish to die. We should recycle so we can make other things from it.”
And Faith Reid summed up her thoughts on the day with “The Earth gives us so much. We have to do something back.”
