St. John Sheriff detectives ask public to help ID suspect

LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives are seeking the assistance of the public to identify the perpetrator in the physical assault of a 32-year-old LaPlace woman.

On May 7, the victim was physically assaulted in the Walmart parking lot. When the victim and her 7-year-old son were getting into their car, a young man jumped on her lap and into the passenger seat of the car. When she fled from the car, the perpetrator chased her and threw her to the ground. She began screaming loudly for help, and he fled the area on foot.

The victim described the perpetrator as a younger black man wearing a black shirt, black jeans and a light blue knit cap. Video surveillance captured the perpetrator prior to the assault.

Anyone who can offer more information about the male subject in the video is encouraged to call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. Citizens can call Crimestoppers and submit an anonymous tip to qualify for the cash reward.

Callers with information do not have to testify in court and will be issued a tip number to be identified for the potential reward.
