The East St. John High School Talented Theatre of the Arts Program produced and performed the play “Volleygirls” at LaPlace Elementary School.
“Volleygirls” was written by playwright Rob Ackerman. The story follows the players of the St. Agnes High School volleyball team who
are trying to make a comeback as their down-on-his-luck coach tries
to bring his team together after being criticized by a very important sports critic. The show was co-directed by TTAP teacher Jessica Hawley and ESJ senior Jordan Brown.
The cast and crew included freshman Alana Hall, Jonnell Crockett and Francis Means, sophomores Lindan Schulz, Lyric Jenkins, Jhai Smith and Chance Frederiksen, junior Goldie Howard, and seniors Sharon Murphy and Dalvin Solomon.
Enduring many losses this year, the TTAP department was in over their heads.  For example, after the relocation of their former teacher, Timothy Daley, finding a replacement was key. Also, after Hurricane Isaac, many TTAP students were questionable to return. However, through it all, they made it. Jessica Hawley, an experienced acting coach, was ecstatic to fill the position. With a small cast and crew at her disposal, she transformed ESJ’s theater department.
