Keeping a smile on your face

I’ve heard it said that the majority of Christians who profess to have Jesus in their hearts have forgotten to notify their face. They walk around with a frown on their face like someone sucking a lemon. Their spirit doesn’t attract anyone to question what a victorious Christian walk is all about.
On the other hand, a person with a godly spirit, great disposition and a smile usually has a positive attitude, which draws people to them.
Last Sunday, I woke up early, as I usually do, and went out to buy a newspaper. Most of the time, I come home, drink a cup of coffee and read the paper.
This particular day, as I’ve done on a few occasions, I bought a cup of coffee and decided to read the paper at the Big River Shell Station on Belle Terre in LaPlace. The coffee is not as good as mine, but I enjoy the cashier’s company. Her name is Laquinta Carter. She is one of the most pleasant people I’ve ever met. I’ve known her for the past two years, and her attitude is always the same. She has a willingness to serve with a smile and a gentle spirit.
Laquinta is a single mom with a 9-year-old daughter named Dyanta who attends Our Lady of Grace School in Reserve.
Before I left Sunday, I asked her if she was a good mother. She smiled and said, “Yes.” I knew the answer before I asked.
In our conversation, she shared that she had been employed with the Shell station for 12 years. “Do they treat you well?” I asked. “Yes, they do,” she answered with a smile. Evidently, the management must realize that in today’s society, a loyal employee with exceptional people skills is hard to find.
Laquinta is in a special class of people who God uses to bless others. She is truly “a diamond in the rough.” I thank Him for allowing me to meet her on my journey toward eternity.
