RESERVE – East St. John rallied to cut a three run deficit to one in the fifth inning but ultimately fell 9-6 to visiting 5A foe Northshore in a non-district game.
“It was just a combination of our mistakes, putting extra guys on for them and making innings longer than they should have been,” said ESJ coach Shan Williams. “They scored three runs in the first inning off of no hits. Three walks and two errors. Those are the things we need to get away from.”
Darnell Lee, Ahmani Martin and Daniel Franklin each collected multiple hits for the Wildcats. Lee went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, continuing his hot hitting this season. Martin went 2 for 4 and Franklin also went 2 for 4, adding an RBI.
Franklin took the loss on the mound, going 2.2 innings and allowing two earned runs and six total. He struck out five.
East St. John scored three runs in the first inning to tie the Panthers at 3-3. ESJ took a 4-3 lead in the second inning, but Northshore added three runs in the third and another in the fifth to go up 7-4.
Two runs by ESJ in the fifth made it anyone’s game at 7-6, but Northshore added one more run in each of the final two innings and held the Wildcats scoreless from there.
