National Honor Society Induction was recently held at St. Charles Catholic High School. The new officers were sworn in and 23 new members were welcomed to the group. Each year, NHS holds their induction and the former officers (now in college) return to install the new officers into their positions and current members induct the new members into the chapter. A short, informal dinner followed and members and their parents were able to enjoy each other’s company.
The new officers are: President Karleigh Landry, Vice President Logan Jacob, Secretary Meredith Keating, Treasurer Reena Wadhwa and Parliamentarian Stephen Parker.
St. Charles Catholic High School was granted its charter from the National Association of Secondary School Principals in October 2006. The St. Charles Catholic chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes students who meet certain standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. After the completion of a semester, students who have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA (with no C’s) for two consecutive nine weeks periods are eligible to apply for membership. After completing an information form, the faculty then evaluates the students based on the previously mentioned areas. The student information form and the faculty evaluations are looked over by a Faculty Council, who then selects students for membership into the chapter.
Although one’s GPA is a large factor in a student being admitted into NHS, service and leadership are where the organization truly thrives.
Plans for the school year begin in the summer when the Executive Council meets to discuss possible projects.
Two of the projects that have remained since the chapter’s start is the Peer Tutoring program that takes place during lunch and Spring Beautification Day when members do landscaping projects on campus. The 23 new members will be a great addition to the current chapter. They will begin their service hour requirement upon entering the chapter.
