LUTCHER — The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting shots fired in the vicinity of 1350 Lutcher Ave. on Friday evening. Deputies discovered that one person had been shot when they responded to the call. Acadian Ambulance was dispatched to the scene, and the victim was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans. The victim was listed in critical condition on Friday. No update could be was available.
Investigators arrested 17-year-old Edison Daron Wiggins of Lutcher in connection with the shooting and charged him with attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities. The investigation is ongoing. Wiggins is currently incarcerated at the St. James Parish Jail. His bond is $500,000 for the attempted second-degree murder charge and $100,000 for the illegal use of weapons charge.
