LAPLACE – River Parishes residents have plenty to look forward this weekend with four parades planned for the weekend before Mardi Gras and another scheduled to roll on Fat Tuesday.
Look out for the Krewes of Lul and Towahpasah on Saturday. Lul will begin its route at the corner of Angus and Sugarhouse roads at noon in Luling. Towahpasah will start at 1 p.m. at the corner of West Eighth and NW Fourth streets and meander through the streets of Reserve. Both of these parades had to cancel last year because of inclement weather, but the forecast for today call for fair skies, so each krewe should be able to look forward to a nice parade.
On Sunday, Krewe du Monde will begin its procession at the intersection of Airline Highway and Main Street at noon in LaPlace. Organized and run by the LaPlace Lions Club, the parade is the largest in the River Parishes and proceeds benefit a slate of youth-oriented charities. The parade features a many large floats, several local marching bands and dance groups and truck floats. Then at 1 p.m. in St. Charles Parish, the Krewe of Des Allemands begins its march at the corner of Whitley Road and Old Spanish Trail in Des Allemands.
Lastly, the Krewe of Tomorrow will be rolling through St. James Parish on Mardi Gras Day. The procession will begin on Main Street in Lutcher and end on Main Street in Gramercy.
