LAPLACE – According to the National Weather Service, a risk of severe thunderstorms is expected for Southeast Louisiana Sunday afternoon and evening as a result of a cold front moving across the region. The disturbance may also bring heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday with amounts of two to three inches predicted. Damaging winds, large hail, isolated tornadoes, lightning and localized flooding will be the main threats during the weather event. Residents should use caution when going outside and when on roads.
Residents are asked to remove any debris from catch basins and storm drains because of anticipated heavy rains. Avoid placing debris in ditches, drainage canals and on the side of the road that may impede drainage or become projectiles. The St. John Parish Emergency Operations Center is monitoring weather forecasts for any changes. The Public Works and Utilities Departments are prepared for the weather event and are on call in the event problems occur. Residents should report any issues or concerns during the rain event to 9-1-1.
