St. Charles Parish crimes increases

LAPLACE — Sheriff Greg Champagne reports that crime in St. Charles Parish fell in the second half of 2012 when compared to the same period in 2011. However, there was an overall increase of 8 percent when compared to the full year of 2011.
This modest rise in the overall crime rate is largely attributed to spikes in property crimes occurring during the first half of the year. The arrest of several high-impact offenders is attributed to a downturn in the third and fourth quarters.
The Sheriff’s Office releases Uniform Crime Reports regarding seven index crimes compiled for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This information consists of crimes reported to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office from July 1, 1996, to December 2012.
