LaPlace shooting suspect arrested

LAPLACE – The suspect wanted for shooting a man in the leg over the holidays has been apprehended.
Twenty-two-year-old Justin Sylvan of LaPlace was arrested Thursday, Jan. 3, on a warrant for aggravated battery. Detectives encountered Sylvan on West Second Street when he fled, attempting to evade arrest. Detectives captured Sylvan after a brief foot pursuit.
Detectives seized $2,270 from Sylvan and narcotics from his vehicle. He was charged with aggravated battery, resisting an officer with force or violence, resisting an officer, sale/distribution/possession of a legend drug without a prescription, distribution/manufacture of schedule II CDS and parole violation. Sylvan’s bond was set at $48,000 with a hold for parole violation.
On Dec. 27, the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office 911 dispatchers received a call from the River Parishes Hospital Emergency Room about a walk-in patient with a gunshot wound on his right leg above the knee. The 52-year-old LaPlace man identified the suspect as Sylvan and told investigators that they had gotten into an argument prior to the shooting. The victim and the suspect are relatives.
