Rory J. Growl was a beloved father, grandfather, husband and brother who passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at 2:10 p.m. after a brave and long fight with cancer.  He was a native of Luling and a resident of LaPlace for the past 31 years.  
He is survived by his wife, Robin George Growl, son Jourdan (Adele) Growl and daughter Christie (Brandon) Ocmond, as well as his grandchildren: Ella and William Growl and Paige, Ethan and Aiden Ocmond. He is also survived by his devoted brothers and sisters: Ronnie (Roberta) Growl, Norma “Chris” (Chuck) Calvo, Danny Growl, John (Julie) Growl, Gwen Growl (finacee) Lingle Mongrue), April (Ned) Kinler, and Joan Growl; brother-in-law, Tommy (Tracy) George; and sister-in-law, Juanita Duhe.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, John “Bum” Growl and Norma Kinler Growl; sister, Jan Growl; and sister-in-law, Karen (Tony) Milazzo.  
He was employed by Shell Norco, with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as spending time with his family, and fishing with his children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Ascension of Our Lord Church, 1900 Greenwood Drive, LaPlace, on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, from noon until 2 p.m. Mass will begin at 2 p.m.  Burial will take place at St. Joseph Mausoleum in Paulina immediately following Mass.
