LAPLACE – To further assist the ongoing needs of residents after Hurricane Isaac, the St. John the Baptist Parish Long-Term Recovery Group has launched a website, www.stjohnrecovery.com, devoted to recovery efforts in St. John.
The website defines the role of the group and will be utilized as a way to show viewers the progress being made in St. John Parish. It will also help assess needs, offer support to residents and provide information relating to long-term recovery in St. John Parish.
The SJBP LTRG website includes photos of rebuilding efforts, a calendar of community events, news, volunteer information and an option that allows residents to request homeowner assistance.
As with many websites, the site will continue to undergo improvements and updates as forward movement is made.
Currently, the group has raised $435,000 toward recovery in St. John and has allocated numerous donations of plywood, sheetrock and other rebuilding materials through the multi-agency warehouse in LaPlace to residents.  Anyone interested in donating to the group can do so through the SJBP LTRG website by simply visiting the home page.
The mission of the SJBP LTRG is to address the needs of residents in response to damage sustained from Hurricane Isaac. The group includes volunteer agencies that offer resources and locals who represent the needs of their neighborhoods.
Members are led by an executive board composed of the chairman and co-chairman of five standing committees including: volunteer and donation coordination, construction/ clean up coordination, case management, emotional and spiritual care and unmet needs. To date, over 1,000 volunteers working over 11,000 hours have been assisting St. John the Baptist Parish residents in cleaning, gutting, painting, repairing and rebuilding homes to assist with restoring the community, and more volunteers are expected to come to provide many needed services.
Residents still needing assistance are encouraged to contact the Volunteer Reception Center at 985-359-0254, visit the center at 1933 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace, or apply for assistance on the SJBP LTRG website.
Monetary donations can be made to:
St. John United Way (designate for SJBP Long Term Recovery Group), P. O. Box 2019, Reserve, LA 70084; or “Hurricane Isaac Recovery Fund” at wwwhurricaneisaacrecoveryfund.com or mailed to First National Bank, 377 Belle Terre Blvd., LaPlace, LA 70068.
Funds will go toward the purchase of large volumes of rebuilding supplies such as sheetrock, insulation, flooring and other materials to assist with rebuilding homes in the St. John Parish.
All donations will be allocated to volunteer and non-profit organizations in the SJBP LTRG to repair the homes of those with the greatest need.
