LUTCHER — St. James Parish Hospital Nurses recently completed a Trauma Nurse Core Course, which trains and tests nurses on the care of a trauma patient.
The Emergency Nurses Association sets the standards and TNCC outline which involves several tiers of training including a lecture, written test and a practical exam. During the practical exam, nurses react to a “mega code” and must properly implement the correct steps in the correct order to care for the pseudo trauma patient. Nurses that complete and pass the training are TNCC-Certified for four years before being required to retake the course.
All of the nurses at St. James Parish Hospital receive this training.
