St. John Sheriff’s Office looking for alleged shooter

LAPLACE – On Thursday, Dec. 27, at 1:02 p.m., St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office 911 dispatchers received a call from River Parishes Hospital Emergency Room personnel notifying authorities of a walk-in patient who had a gunshot wound. The victim, a 52-year-old LaPlace man, was brought to the hospital by family members. He sustained a single gunshot wound to the right leg above the knee. He was in stable condition and expected to be treated and released. No one else was injured during the incident.

The victim identified the perpetrator as Justin Sylvan, 22, of LaPlace. The victim and perpetrator are relatives. The victim told investigators they argued prior to the shooting. Sylvan remains at large.
