LAPLACE – A small house fire in the Belle Pointe subdivision was quickly brought under control Tuesday afternoon with no injuries and limited damage to the structure.

An official with the St. John the Baptist Volunteer Fire Department said the fire started when a woman in the house left a pot unattended on the stove. Once she discovered the fire she called 911, and two units responded shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Although smoke could be seen coming out of the attic, firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the kitchen area.

The official said the water damage was confined to the kitchen but there was smoke damage in other parts of the house.

After the blaze was extinguished firefighters used a large fan in an attempt to clear the house of the residual odor and minimize any smoke damage.
