LUTCHER – The St. James Parish School Board may find themselves looking for a new person to head up the school district.
Questions arose when an item concerning the negotiation of Superintendent Alonzo Luce’s contract was added to the agenda for Tuesday’s board meeting late. Luce still has 2 1/2 years remaining on his current contract. Following the meeting, Luce confirmed he has been offered another position but declined to comment further pending discussion with his family.
Although Luce and the school board met behind closed doors for negotiations for about an hour Tuesday, no action was taken when they returned to the board room.
Subsequently, the school board has called a special meeting Monday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. in the board meeting room in Lutcher. The only item on the agenda is discussion of the superintendent’s contract.
A couple of months ago, Luce put in for the superintendent position with the Zachary Community School District. He was one of five finalists for the position but failed to make the final round of interviews.
